Steve Lawless Managing Director

Steve founded Salus after an accomplished 18-year career at Old Mutual, where he held a variety of senior roles. He began his career managing Private Banks and IFA clients before advancing to the position of Global Head of Banking Distribution in 2012. In this role, Steve was responsible for overseeing Old Mutual's global relationships, managing key markets including London, Switzerland, Singapore, Dubai and Hong Kong. Later, as Global Head of High Net Worth Sales, he led the development of distribution partnerships with private banks, solicitors, family offices, accountants, trust companies, and external asset managers. After achieving a record year in 2017, Steve decided in 2018 it was time to build something of his own, leading to the creation of Salus alongside Jerry and Sarah. As Managing Director at Salus, Steve spends most of his time helping advise clients on their life insurance needs, and nurturing existing and new introducer relationships for the wider business.

Steve holds a degree in Economics, is FCA-qualified to diploma level, and a holder of the CII Trusts exam. Additionally, he also holds the CFA Investment Management Certificate.

Outside of work, Steve enjoys a variety of hobbies, including fitness, jogging with his dog, golf, cricket, cooking, and wine. He is also kept busy by his three children, enjoyed by both him and his wife of 20 years.



Tom McClean Director

Tom McClean joined Salus in 2025 as a Director, bringing extensive experience in Wealth Planning and Private Banking. Prior to joining Salus, Tom spent over four years at EFG Private Bank in London, advising domestic and international high-net-worth clients on estate planning, protection and retirement solutions. His earlier career includes an analyst role at Royal Bank of Scotland in London and an internship at a Single Family Office based in Basel, Switzerland. Tom holds a First-Class Honours degree in Political Science from Durham University and his professional qualifications include the CFA’s full IMC, and the CISI Investment Advice Diploma - Financial Planning and Advice.

At Salus, Tom plays a key role in advising clients on their life insurance needs, as well as working alongside Steve strengthening introducer relationships and developing new partnerships.

Tom is passionate about building long-term client relationships and enjoys working in a team environment, an outlook shaped by his background in sport. Whilst juggling his studies at Durham University, Tom represented England Students in rugby, while also enjoying many other sports. Outside of work, Tom enjoys staying active and can often be found on the padel court or on the golf course.



Jerry Brown Head of Underwriting and Claims

Jerry has had a distinguished career spanning over 40 years in underwriting, building expertise and leadership in the field. He led Swiss Re’s UK underwriting and claims functions from 2001 to 2007, where he played a key role in risk assessment and claims processes. Afterward, he founded his own consultancy, working with leading life insurance companies such as Aegon, Aviva, Legal & General, Scottish Widows, and Underwrite Me to enhance their underwriting and risk management strategies.

From 2010 to 2017, Jerry served as Underwriting and Claims Director at Risk Assured, where he was instrumental in establishing the company's underwriting model and securing direct access to reinsurance decision-making and capacity.

Jerry joined Salus when it was first founded in 2018, where as Head of Underwriting and claims he has continued to build strong relationships with insurers and reinsurers alike. Known for his deep understanding of underwriting, risk management and claims handling, he plays a vital role in securing the very best terms and outcomes for all of Salus’s clients.

Outside of work, Jerry is passionate about fishing, golf, and ancient history, enjoying both leisure activities and exploring historical topics in his personal time.



Kay Barrow Client Services Manager

Kay began her career at Aegon Life & Pensions in 2000, where she worked on various teams dealing with all aspects of new business and building her knowledge of the business and wider industry. After a few years she progressed to a managerial role where she collaborated with other areas of the business, including Underwriters, claims, telephony, IT & Change and servicing to ensure successful delivery of an excellent customer experience. She also enjoyed coaching her team and colleagues, sharing her knowledge and experience whilst helping them build their confidence and overall development.

In late 2023 Kay left Aegon to join Salus, where she continues to leverage her extensive industry knowledge. At Salus, she is dedicated to delivering exceptional client service, overseeing the entire client lifecycle process from the initial quotation stage through to annual client reviews.

Kay holds the FP1 and FAFC qualifications and an NVQ Level 5 in First Line management.

Spending quality time with her family and friends, Kay particularly enjoys bonding activities with her son, such as walks with their dog. She stays healthy through home workouts and yoga. Kay is passionate about continuous learning, often listening to podcasts or pursuing additional training and qualifications to expand her knowledge in areas of interest.



Sarah Lomas Operations Manager

Sarah began her career at Skandia Life in 1999 as a Business Analyst within the IT department. In this role, she collaborated closely with business users to deliver IT solutions aimed at improving operational procedures and processes. After five years at Skandia, Sarah transitioned to Winterthur Life, an insurance company originally part of the Credit Suisse Group and later acquired by AXA. Over her eight-year service there, she advanced to the role of Senior Business Analyst, further honing her analytical skills and developing a particular interest in software testing. Sarah left AXA at the end of 2011 to focus on raising her family. Sarah joined Salus in 2022 where she has since been involved in day to day operations ranging from financial, HR, Marketing, IT solutions and general administration.

Although born in the UK, Sarah was raised in South Africa. She studied in the Eastern Cape and earned a Bachelor of Science degree. In addition, she holds the ISEB Foundation Certificate in Business Analysis.

Outside of her professional life, Sarah is passionate about fitness and enjoys a variety of activities, including Pilates, swimming, gym classes, and HIIT workouts. She loves walking through the countryside with her dog and enjoys an annual hiking holiday in the Mallorcan mountains. In addition to these interests, Sarah manages a busy household, where she enjoys spending time with her children.



Holly Broad Head of Broking

Holly began her career in financial services in 2014 with Skandia. Whilst there she progressed through several roles including Administration and Managerial roles, and eventually to Protection Consultant. It was during this time that she developed a strong interest in high net worth (HNW) protection. Since then, Holly has dedicated her career to supporting advisers in delivering tailored protection solutions for clients with complex needs, always striving to achieve the best possible outcomes.

In June 2020, Holly joined AIG Life as a Specialist HNW Account Manager. In this role, she worked closely with intermediaries to support the placement of large protection policies. Holly combines deep technical knowledge, alongside her reinsurance expertise, with a hands-on and collaborative approach. She has also contributed to actuarial work, further broadening her understanding of the industry.

Holly holds the R05 qualification and is actively pursuing further Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) qualifications.

Her dedication to customer service was recognised in 2024 when she received the COVER Customer Care Award, being named Intermediary Support Champion.

Outside of work, Holly enjoys quality time with her family, friends, and her two cats, Pablo and Maisy. She also loves escaping to her holiday home in Spain throughout the year, where she takes time to relax, recharge, and enjoy the sunshine.
